Bern, 19.01.2024 – As part of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Federal Office for Civil Protection (FOPC) offered important support for the operation of the communications infrastructure and guaranteed radiological safety, complementing thus the large-scale involvement of the police and the army.
At this year’s World Economic Forum (WEF), the OFPP focused on supporting the operation of the communications infrastructure and NBC protection, together with the Graubünden cantonal police, other police concordats, the army and the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM).
The National Alarm Center monitored radioactivity over large areas using automatic measuring probes in Davos and the surrounding area. Thanks to the electronic presentation of the situation (PES CENAL), it constantly informed its partners of the situation concerning the protection of the population. This concerns both natural hazards and the state of critical infrastructure. No unusual radioactivity values were recorded during the event. Spiez Laboratory specialists supported radiological safety at the conference venue using highly sensitive measuring devices and specialized monitoring vehicles.
Polycom, the National Security Radio Network, has been the primary means of communication for security and rescue services. The OFPP used its technical expertise to ensure the security of the network and coordinated the allocation of frequencies to international delegations in agreement with OFCOM and the army. Additionally, he helped police engage Polycom resources tactically in an effort to avoid potential overloads.
Cooperation between the OFPP and other federal and cantonal bodies proved essential to keep the communications infrastructure operational and to ensure radiological safety during the WEF. The collaboration between the different partners involved worked smoothly. The OFPP provides equivalent services at comparable major events in Switzerland, for example at international conferences.
