officially at the level of an RTX 3060M?

Intel released via Tomshardware the expected performance of their A770M over 17 games, with performance that would reach the 3060 mobile?

Arc A770M: faster or slower than a 3060 mobile?

Above all, comparing performance on a laptop has always been a more or less delicate matter depending on the chassis used, which may be more efficient than others, yet having the same GPU and having the same TGP.

Thus, some laptops with the same 3060, will be able to offer honorable or even better performance than a 3060 of desktopwhile others will fall on versions whose capacities will be restrained by the cooling system.

Intel has therefore put 2 pre-series laptops equipped with Arc GPUs and 2 laptops with NVIDIA GPUs:

  • Intel Arc A730M (80-120W), i7-12700H, DDR5-4800
  • Intel Arc A770M (120-150W), i9-12900HK, DDR5-4800
  • MSI Pulse GL66 : RTX 3060 Mobile (85W), i9-12900HK, DDR5-4800
  • ROG Zephyrus M16 : RTX 3050 Ti Mobile (60W), i7-11800H, DDR4-3200

On an average of 17 games, Intel announces that its A730M is more efficient by 13% compared to the 3050 Ti mobile and its A770M by 12% compared to the 3060 mobile. Figures which thus seem encouraging in the first place for its versions laptopbut also for versions desktop. But here we are, the comparisons on laptops are more complicated because of TGPs and cooling.

Owning an Intel NUC X15 equipped with an RTX 3060 mobile at 80W and an i7-11800H, which has a very good cooling CPU and GPU, I wanted to test one of the games that Intel put in their list, namely Borderlands 3 with the same settings en 1080p ultra.

With this laptop, I get a result of almost 78 FPS, barely more efficient than the A770M, but almost 30% faster than the 3060 Mobile chosen by Intel.

We must therefore take the published figures with extreme caution, both the performance of the same graphics card in a laptop may vary, due to the TGPs applied by the manufacturers or the integrated cooling system. We will therefore have to wait for the first reviews and especially different laptops to get a real idea of performance.
