Official: Philippe Clement joins Monaco, Alfred Schreuder is the new coach of Bruges

Club Brugge have found the successor of Philippe Clement, who left for Monaco, by announcing the arrival of Dutchman Alfred Schreuder, the reigning Belgian champions confirmed on Monday. He signed an indefinite contract with the Blauw & Zwart. Schreuder, 49, had been without a club since his dismissal from FC Barcelona, ​​where he was Ronald Koeman’s assistant, last October. He began his coaching career in 2009 as an assistant at Vitesse Arnhem then at Twente where he notably assisted Michel Preud’homme during the 2010-2011 season. In 2014 he became head coach at Twente but was fired at the start of the 2015-2016 season.

The Dutchman then bounced back in Germany as an assistant to Huub Stevens then Julian Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim (2015-2018) before returning to the Netherlands as Erik ten Hag’s assistant at Ajax in the 2018 season. -2019 in which the club will reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. At the start of the 2019-2020 season, he returned to Hoffenheim as head coach but was dismissed at the end of the season.

In Bruges, the Dutchman will have the difficult task of succeeding Philippe Clement, who left for Monaco to replace Niko Kovac. At the end of his two full seasons in the Venice of the North, Clement had led the Brugeois to two Belgian league titles.

Schreuder arrives at Jan Breydel with two assistants, Austria’s Danijel Zenkovic, 34, and Dutch goalkeeper coach, 55, Carlo L’Ami. They have also signed permanent contracts and complete the Bruges technical staff which includes Carl Hoefkens and Gertjan De Mets as well as physical trainers Eddie Rob and Carl Vandenbussche.
