**Interview with Dr. Leyla Mammadova, Political Analyst and Regional Expert**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Mammadova. Recently, President Ilham Aliyev announced the liberation of Fuzuli city from Armenian occupation. Can you explain the significance of this announcement?
**Dr. Mammadova:** Absolutely. The liberation of Fuzuli is a pivotal moment for Azerbaijan, especially in the context of the ongoing territorial disputes following the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Fuzuli is strategically located and has great historical and cultural significance for Azerbaijan. Its liberation symbolizes not only a military victory but also the restoration of Azerbaijani sovereignty over its territories.
**Editor:** How do you think this development will impact relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia moving forward?
**Dr. Mammadova:** This development could escalate tensions between the two nations, as Armenia may perceive this as a further encroachment on its own territorial claims. On the other hand, Azerbaijan views the liberation as a step toward restoring its territorial integrity. Future dialogue will be essential, but it may be challenging with heightened nationalistic sentiments on both sides.
**Editor:** In light of this news, what role do you think international organizations could play in fostering dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia?
**Dr. Mammadova:** International organizations, such as the OSCE Minsk Group, have historically facilitated discussions between both countries. Their involvement could be crucial in establishing a ceasefire and mediating future negotiations. However, the effectiveness of these organizations often depends on the willingness of both parties to engage in constructive dialogue.
**Editor:** what message do you think President Aliyev’s announcement sends to the Azerbaijani people?
**Dr. Mammadova:** It resonates strongly with national pride and a sense of achievement among Azerbaijanis. The government has framed this liberation as part of a broader restoration of justice and national identity following decades of conflict. This reinforcement of national unity is likely to boost support for the government domestically.
