**Interview with Dr. Aydin Rahimov, Political Analyst and Expert on Caucasus Affairs**
**Editor:** Good afternoon, Dr. Rahimov. Thank you for joining us today to discuss the recent announcement from President Ilham Aliyev regarding the liberation of Fuzuli city from Armenian occupation.
**Dr. Rahimov:** Good afternoon! Thank you for having me. It’s a significant development in the context of the long-standing conflict in the region.
**Editor:** To start, can you explain the importance of Fuzuli city in the broader context of the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict?
**Dr. Rahimov:** Absolutely. Fuzuli holds strategic military and economic importance due to its location. Control over Fuzuli allows Azerbaijan to strengthen its position in the Karabakh region and enhances connectivity to other liberated areas. It also signifies a psychological victory, reinforcing national pride after years of conflict.
**Editor:** President Aliyev’s announcement comes after a period of heightened tensions. How do you see this influencing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia going forward?
**Dr. Rahimov:** This announcement could further strain relations, as Armenia may view it as a provocation. However, it could also open up channels for dialogue if both sides recognize the need for stability. The international community’s response will play a crucial role in shaping the future dynamics.
**Editor:** What are the implications for the civilians in Fuzuli and the surrounding areas?
**Dr. Rahimov:** The civilian population has faced tremendous hardship due to the conflict. The liberation of Fuzuli could lead to the return of displaced persons and the rebuilding of infrastructure, but it also brings uncertainties related to security and governance. The local administration will have to address these challenges carefully.
**Editor:** Lastly, what steps do you think the international community should take in light of this situation?
**Dr. Rahimov:** The international community should encourage both Azerbaijan and Armenia to engage in constructive dialogue aimed at a lasting peace. Mediators, such as the OSCE Minsk Group, could facilitate discussions to address unresolved issues and promote cooperation in the region.
**Editor:** Thank you, Dr. Rahimov, for sharing your insights on this important topic. We appreciate your expertise.
**Dr. Rahimov:** Thank you for having me. It’s an important moment for both nations, and I hope for a peaceful resolution moving forward.
