High-ranking official, “predict the timing” on whether to hold a summit in February
The President’s Office announced on the 16th (local time) that both the heads of Korea and Japan are concentrating on resolving pending issues and improving relations.
A high-ranking official in the presidential office, who is carrying out President Yoon Seok-yeol’s state visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), answered a question related to the possibility of a ‘Korea-Japan summit in February’ at a local briefing in Abu Dhabi this followingnoon.
“The heads of the two countries met last time in Cambodia and also in New York,” he said. “We also agreed on the so-called restoration of shuttle diplomacy.
The official said, “We assume that Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will have the same thoughts as President Yoon.” It is something that can be done,” he added.
As for whether the summit might be held in February, he said, “it is still too early to predict the timing.”
