Offense loses momentum, but pressure remains

After last week’s lightning campaign, the Ukrainians are now making slower progress. However, they make further territorial gains in both the east and south of the country.

Since the hasty retreat of the occupation troops from large parts of the Ukrainian province of Kharkov, the question has arisen as to whether Russia can hold the new defense lines or is heading for an actual military fiasco. This is not likely to be resolved any time soon. The Ukrainian advance has largely slowed down, but that doesn’t mean it has ground to a halt. The Kremlin’s troops are in a precarious position in various places.
