According to the draw on Sunday, Sturm Graz will face the ambitious second division football team SV Ried. SK Rapid, finalist of the last two editions, will face SR Donaufeld in the city derby, as in the previous year. Salzburg will be guests of Wiener Viktoria with coach Toni Polster, while Wiener Austria will also face a regional league team, ASKÖ Oedt.
The games will be played from August 27th to 29th. Sturm, the competition winner of the past two seasons, suffered their last cup defeat against Ried. In October 2021, the Innviertel team won 2-1 in the round of 16 in Graz on their way to the final. Since then, 13 wins in a row have followed for Black and White, most recently a laborious 4-2 after extra time in Krems on Saturday. Eastern division team Donaufeld can look forward to another duel with Rapid after their 2-0 win against SCR Altach, the only Bundesliga team to be eliminated in the opening match. Last year, Green and White won 7-0 in the first round.
The draw after Rapid’s promotion at SC Neusiedl am See with a total of 32 teams was carried out by “lucky fairy” Friedrich Csarmann, a former Neusiedl professional. The 2025 final is again scheduled for May 1 in Klagenfurt. The stadium on Lake Wörthersee will remain the venue for the cup finals at least until 2026.
