LINZ. Men’s get-togethers where people talk regarding football take place practically every week – last Friday, the Upper Austrian Football Association also held an event for female fans of the sport: the first “Ladies Talk” took place in Linz’s Raiffeisen Arena. “It was a very successful event, everyone was enthusiastic,” says OÖFV director Raphael Oberndorfinger.
37 women who work as officials or trainers at Upper Austrian lower house clubs were present at the premiere – and listened to a motivational speech by the LASK vice-president Barbara Niedermayr also the words of Isabel Hochstögerthe ÖFB’s women’s football director, and ÖFB president Klaus Mitterdorfer, who also insisted on coming to Linz. The 58-year-old Carinthian emphasized that more awareness needs to be created: “We have to give women a home in football.”
An ear for important target groups
Three important topic areas were also worked out in working groups: the problems and hurdles that women face in football – such as the lack of acceptance, the time factor or the dominance of men – were dealt with, and a woman’s motivation to work in football as well their expectations and wishes for the future. “The aim of this first-ever event was to give an important target group an ear. We will use the knowledge gained as an opportunity to initiate further steps,” says OÖFV President Gerhard Götschhofer. Another goal was to get the women excited regarding possible jobs with the association. Oberndorfinger. “We are also looking for female officials for the association, and some have already expressed their interest.”
