Oedt boss Grad makes it clear: “As champions, we are going down”

Although the Upper Austrian Football League has been on winter break since mid-November, things have been bubbling hotly in the rumor mill recently. In the spotlight: autumn champion Askö Oedt.

There were always voices saying that the people of Traun might imagine promotion to the unpopular regional league. President Franz Grad’s club would be obliged to do this if they ended the season in first place once more. If you forego promotion as champions, Oedt would have to be relegated to the national league. So do you want to move up now? “This question is a matter for the boss,” said sports director Gerald Baumgartner when asked by OÖN. And he has a clear opinion: “As masters, we are going down,” says Grad unmistakably.

The transport entrepreneur doesn’t want to know anything regarding the promotion rumors: “Why should I defend myself once morest this third league for years and now get promoted? That would be absolute nonsense.” Especially since he says that he helped with a financial injection in the summer so that his then league rival Wallern surprisingly managed to get promoted in second place: “I might have saved a lot of money and gotten promoted myself.”

Gradascevic takes over

Anyone who knows Grad knows that it is difficult to dissuade him from an opinion. It doesn’t change anything if one or the other in your own club is flirting with promotion. He is excited regarding the development of the Upper Austrian league: “Everyone complains regarding Oedt because we don’t want to be promoted. But the other clubs also have no interest in the regional league. There is this rule that you have to be relegated if you don’t get promoted “It’s only because they want Oedt to continue. I’m curious to see whether this regulation will remain in place when we’re no longer in the league. If not, then the association will really get to know me.”

The question regarding the new coach of the 1b team in the Regional League East has been answered: Samir Gradascevic, former coach of the Upper Austrian league teams Perg and Pregarten, is succeeding Robert Ibertsberger.
