October is a special month for me in the media, as I entered the field of journalistic writing through awareness of World Days in 2013. It is the month in which awareness is raised regarding breast cancer, which ranks first among the most common types of cancer globally, regionally, and locally among women aged 40 years and over. Likewise, according to statistics published on the Saudi Ministry of Health website, 50% of breast cancer cases in the Kingdom are detected at advanced stages, compared to 20% in developed countries. Which increases the death rate and reduces the chances of recovery, in addition to the high cost of treatment. This is why the awareness campaign is intensified this month to recommend periodic screening for early detection of breast cancer.

The first day of October was dedicated to the International Day of Older Persons and was titled “Fulfilling the promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for the benefit of older persons across generations, in order to shed light on the rights guaranteed by international conventions and fundamental freedoms for older persons, and to emphasize how to fulfill promises to them, taking into account The privacy of the elderly around the world, with the aim of enjoying their rights and addressing violations, and focusing on how to enhance solidarity through fairness and reciprocity between generations, which provides sustainable solutions. In the Kingdom, the number of elderly is 3.81%, or 1.36 million people, and chronic diseases are considered the most common among people. The elderly. Therefore, health awareness focuses on taking care of health from a young age so that the elderly can reap the benefits when they get older.

World Mental Health Day coincides with October 10, and the World Federation for Mental Health has announced its theme for this year entitled “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right,” stressing the importance of working to reduce social stigma, which is a critical factor in quality care and access to the full range of services. Required health care. The Saudi Minister of Health, in his speech on the website of the National Center for Mental Health Promotion, stressed the commitment of the Kingdom and the health sectors to promoting mental health for all members of society, facilitating access to mental health services, and working to reduce the stigma associated with mental disorders, out of the keenness of the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques – may God protect him – to take over. Citizens’ health is full care, including attention to mental health as an integral part of health. This interest has been reflected in a wide network of specialized hospitals, psychiatric clinics, preventive and awareness programs, while raising the quality of services provided and investing in developing the workforce and attracting distinguished expertise. While seeking to protect the rights of psychiatric patients and prevent unprofessional practices.

World Arthritis Day is on the twelfth of October. Awareness aims to remind us of the importance of following a healthy lifestyle, ways to prevent arthritis and reduce its risks, and encourage early detection of arthritis.

World Sight Day falls on the second Thursday of October.

Global Handwashing Day should always be remembered to reduce infection, which falls in the third week of October every year, which increases awareness to improve patient safety.
