Dedova Day: A Scare-tastic Celebration of Dead by Daylight
Eight years, and we’re still getting spooked! Yes, that’s right – it’s been eight years since 2016 when Dead by Daylight, the asymmetrical competitive multiplayer horror game, crawled its way into our homes and our nightmares. And what’s this? A special celebration is coming up on October 18, 2024, cheekily dubbed “Dedova Day”. Now, if that doesn’t sound like the perfect excuse for a fright night, I don’t know what does!
In Japan, the passion for DbD has been delightfully palpable. Since 2019, savvy gamers have noted that the title can be read as “10 (de), 10 (do), 8 (ba)”, cleverly creating a reason to pop those horror hats on and celebrate. It initially started as a grassroots affair among players, and before you could say “killer clown,” it received the official stamp of approval from the Japan Anniversary Association in 2022! Who knew the maths of horror could be so rewarding?
Thanks, Japan! You’ve Got Us Squee-ing
Now, let’s take a moment to express undying gratitude (pun totally intended) to the Japanese community. Their creativity and devotion are truly impressive. This year, the management team is all geared up to showcase some glorious fan art and jaw-dropping cosplays emanating from Japan! Imagine a fest of creative horror – how very thrilling!
Mathieu Côté, one of the game’s original developers, waxed poetic about his experiences meeting fans worldwide. “The Japanese community is full of fun and passionate people,” he mused, probably with a hint of joy in his eyes – or maybe that was just the reflection of the midnight candle he lights while playing? Either way, it’s clear he’s as taken by the fans as we are by the fear of what’s lurking around the corner!
Unparalleled Artistry and Emotion
Have you ever sat in front of your screen, mouth agape like a startled fish? That’s what the team experienced in their special video featuring three big names from the game: Mathieu Côté himself, Product Director Rose Li, and Senior Creative Director Dave Richard. They were astonished and emotionally moved by the artistry of the DbD fans. And honestly, who wouldn’t be? One art piece got Mathieu all worked up, saying, “Please make a book out of this and send it to me!” Now, that’s what I call a fan request!!
Dedova Day? More Like ’Let’s Rave about DbD’ Day!
And in this spirit of gratitude, the “Dedova Day Commemorative Message” video will also be hitting the screens with messages directly from the management team. Plus, we’ve got Broadcast & Event Manager Gabrielle Malvar throwing in a bit of Japanese charm – how charming is that? Vi Le, the Marketing Coordinator, declared their love for the Land of the Rising Sun, exclaiming, “I would love to come to Japan!” I’m telling you, this is what happens when horror meets heart!
What’s more? Matthew Côté teased some upcoming content that’ll set the hearts of Japanese fans racing. I reckon they’ll be watching like hawks, perhaps with a scripted spine-chilling performance thrown in for good measure!
