The Océanic no longer considered that Serge Beausoleil was the man for the job to lead the organization to great honors and, ultimately, participation in the Memorial Cup tournament that Rimouski wishes to host in 2025, according to co-owner Alexandre Tanguay.

“Serge’s coaching skills are not in question,” assured Tanguay during a press briefing held in Rimouski on Tuesday morning. I find that following 12 years, our young people needed a new direction and a new voice. As is the case with anyone leading an organization for 12 years, I felt the message was harder to get across, especially to this generation. Our club lacked vigor at the end of the season and the streak of 10 defeats in 11 games was difficult for our young people and for everyone. I felt we needed a new direction to get our hands on a President’s Cup and a Memorial Cup in 2025.”

Moreover, Tanguay assured that the verbal game with Patrick Roy, during the second round series, had no impact in the decision to thank Beausoleil on Monday morning.

“This little war in the media, I found it pleasant and that it was good for junior hockey in general. To have a bit of emotion in a series between two rivals and two passionate guys like Serge and Patrick, I thought that was completely normal. I didn’t meddle in that and never have in the past. That’s really not the reason behind this announcement. »
