Occupational Safety and Health Officers Manual: Ensuring a Safe Work Environment in Sharjah

SHARJAH, 7th September, WAM / The Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority announced the issuance of the “Occupational Safety and Health Officers Manual”, which includes 26 effective responsibilities. Occupational safety and health officers ensure a safe and healthy work environment for workers and visitors alike.

The guide highlights the role of occupational safety and health officers as essential elements in ensuring the application of the highest safety and health standards in various government and private establishments in the Emirate of Sharjah, and works to strengthen the emirate’s position as a leading reference in the field of occupational safety.

Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Authority, stated that the UAE is keen to preserve the health and safety of employees in the work environment, by issuing legislations and laws to safeguard the rights of employees and workers. Equally, the manual strongly encourages the adoption of a safety culture to integrate safety and productivity.

Dr. Musab Al-Amin, Occupational Health and Safety Consultant at the Authority, said that the guide provides a comprehensive view of a wide range of responsibilities that must be carried out by occupational safety and health officers, from identifying and evaluating risks to training employees and improving the occupational environment. It is noteworthy that the Authority has launched 50 guides for occupational safety and health in order to develop the Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health System to ensure the safe practice of activities in the emirate by providing the necessary information to monitor and analyze risks and implement the necessary preventive measures. Determine the necessary requirements for practicing the activity in a safe and healthy manner. The system obliges all establishments and entities to report accidents in the workplace to the Prevention and Safety Authority. Accident data is received for the purpose of information and analysis, in order to implement preventive measures that prevent the recurrence of accidents to ensure the safety of workers, visitors, contractors and all those affected by its activities.
