The police were called, this Wednesday morning, to Escola Secundária Luísa de Gusmão, in Lisbon, following the demonstration by climate activists of Primavera dos Ocupas – Fim ao Fóssil!

The students demonstrated and put up a tent outside the establishment. Lightning talks were also held to raise awareness. Following the occupation, the director “called the police”, the movement said.

Throughout the day, occupations and demonstrations are taking place in other parts of the country. The Faculty of Psychology and Humanities at the University of Lisbon were already occupied this morning.

Also in Faro, the fight to end fossil fuels brought together a small group of students in front of Tomás Cabreira Secondary School. In an awareness-raising action with the students, they distributed pamphlets and placed posters on a table that read “Occupy until you change”, “End to the fossil” or “Green future”.

According to Mourana Monteiro, activist of the movement “Fim ao Fóssil: Ocupa!”, in the next two weeks there are several planned actions, including debates, lectures and open circles, in which anyone can participate and which culminate, on May 8, with the occupation of the Tomás Cabreira School and the University of the Algarve (UALg).
