Occasions in reminiscence of the victims of communist genocide shall be held in Riga

Subsequent Friday, June 14, Riga will host occasions in reminiscence of the victims of the communist genocide, the exterior communications division of the Riga Metropolis Council advised LETA.

On June 14, 1941, the Soviet authorities deported nearly 16,000 folks from Latvia in a single night time.

In reminiscence of these occasions, a minute of remembrance of the victims of the communist genocide shall be held on the Škirotava railway station on June 14 at 10:00 with the participation of the society of politically repressed Latgale suburbs, the folklore ensemble “Vilkači” and representatives of self-government.

At 12:00, a minute of remembrance and laying of flowers will happen on the memorial close to the Museum of Occupation. The occasion shall be attended by representatives of the Latvian Society of the Politically Repressed, authorities officers and representatives of the Riga Metropolis Council. After the occasion there shall be a procession and laying of flowers on the Freedom Monument.

One other commemorative ceremony will happen at 15:00 at Tornakalns railway station. Will probably be attended by members of the membership of politically repressed Kurzeme area and native authorities officers.

Additionally, on the day of remembrance of the victims of the communist genocide, live shows shall be held within the capital, and the cantata of Lucia Garuta and Andrei Eglitis “God, your land is burning!” shall be carried out within the Dome Cathedral.
