This Sunday, the O’Castor orienteering race returns for an eighteenth edition to Bois-d’Arcy. 6 courses are offered to please young and old alike.
O’Castor makes his return. This Sunday, the orienteering race resumes for the 19th year at Bois-d’Arcy. The event is organized by Guyancourt Orientation 78. This event mainly focuses on orientation, running and hiking. Participants aged 7 to 77 can take part in this event. The aim is to help people discover the forest while respecting it, to learn to venture there without fear, and to find their way around.
“The aim of this event is to introduce people to the sporting practice of orienteering. Accessibility as well as the discovery of nature are also issues. Every year we welcome around 400 to 600 participants,” explained Sandrine Taisson, director of the course O’Castor. Last year, 410 people took part in the orienteering race.
6 possible races depending on the levels
For the O’Castor race, the organization decided to establish six races. The Mini O’Castor, a distance of 5 km, is focused on discovery and not timed. Same thing for the Escape’O, 8 km long. Four other circuits are timed. The S circuit, 5 km long, will be on essentially flat paths. The M circuit, 10 km long, requires knowledge of orientation on an off-road course. The L circuit is one of the hardest. With a distance of 15 km, it requires extensive knowledge of orientation. As for the XL route, it is 20 km long and it is essential to have knowledge of orientation.
After the event, the athletes will meet in the gymnasium. There, they will share a soup offered by the organization around a buffet. In addition, a free raffle is offered to all competitors. This friendly moment allows the organization to highlight its many partners. Please note that each participant will leave the event with a goodie.
