After sunset today, SPA’s lens documented the conjunction of the moon with the gas giant planet Jupiter – the largest planet in the solar system – in a beautiful view in the sky of Rafha Governorate, in the northern border region, and it was easily seen with the naked eye as a bright white dot.

Barjas Al-Fulaih, a member of the Afaq Society for Astronomy, said that the conjunction is apparent and was observed from Earth with the naked eye, and the duration of the conjunction is from the absence of the sun until following midnight.

He pointed out that the presence of the Moon near Jupiter is meant apparently, as they are not close to each other in space. The Moon is regarding 380,000 kilometers away from Earth during this period, while Jupiter is more than 600 million kilometers away at the present time.

It is noteworthy that Jupiter is the fourth brightest object in the dome of the sky following the sun, moon, and Venus.
