Trisakti University Criminal Law Expert Abdul Fickar Hadjar assessed that the seven convicts in the murder case of Vina Dewi Arsita and Muhammad Rizky alias Eky might be released from prison.

This will happen if other evidence is obtained, apart from Aep’s false statement and Pegi Setiawan’s pretrial decision.

“Yes, if the report is supported by other evidence besides Aep’s false report and the pretrial decision, then it is not impossible that the life sentence might be changed, and it is even very possible that it might influence his release,” said Abdul Fickar, Sunday (14/7)

Seven convicts reported two witnesses Aep and Dede for giving false statements to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indonesian National Police. In addition to reporting the two witnesses, the convicts also plan to file a judicial review (PK). Abdul Fickar said that PK is a legal effort as an effort to be free from a life sentence.

“But it’s not necessarily granted. So, the police have to work hard to uncover who the real perpetrator is,” said Abdul Fickar.

For your information, Aep and Dede were reported by the camp of the seven convicts for the case of providing false information to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. The report was filed following the Panel of Judges at the Bandung District Court decided that the determination of Pegi Setiawan as a suspect was invalid.

Aep is one of the witnesses who said Pegi was at the location of Vina’s murder. Now, Pegi’s suspect status has been revoked and he has been released from prison.

Aep and Dede were also said to have given false information regarding the involvement of seven convicts. Therefore, the convicts reported to the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit in the hope of being free like Pegi.

“So it’s true that today I made a report on behalf of the convicts and this activity is a series of efforts to find other evidence. Hopefully in the future we will be questioned once more and given smoothness,” said the attorney for the seven convicts, Roely Panggabean, at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

The seven convicts who reported Aep and Dede Riswanto were Jaya, Supriyanto, Eka Sandi, Hadi Saputra, Eko Ramadhani, Sudirman, and Rivaldi Aditya Wardana. This report was registered with the number: LP/B/227/VI/2024/SPKT/BARESKRIM POLRI, dated July 10, 2024.

The two reported persons are suspected of committing the crime of providing false statements under oath at Class I Bandung Prison, Bandung IIA Narcotics Prison and Cirebon City Police, West Java on September 2, 2016-November 23, 2016. As referred to in Article 242 of the Criminal Code. (Z-10)
