The world and African media are mourning. Suzanne Kala Lobe, a former member of the National Communications Commission, died of illness on the evening of July 31 to August 1, 2024. She was 71 years old.

Suzanne Kala Lobe, a well-known figure in Cameroonian media, has left us. An accomplished journalist, she made her mark on many media outlets before becoming involved in media regulation. She started her career in 1992 at La Nouvelle Expression as a tribute to her father, Iwiyè Kala-Lobe, journalist and founder of Présence Africaine.

She quickly became famous for her column “My candidate will be a woman” during Cameroon’s presidential election. She hosted several programs on Equinoxe radio, including “Polémos”, “Livres noirs” and “Musique d’Afrique”. » On the TV channel Equinoxe Group, owned by Séverin Tchounkeu, she presents the program “Friday Night.” » With her experience and determination, Suzanne Kala Lobe founded her own company EBK Productions and launched a magazine broadcast on Canal2 International “Actu”.

In recognition of her professionalism, on 23 February 2013, by presidential decree, she was appointed to the National Communications Council, Cameroon’s media regulatory body.

Suzanne Kala Lobe was born in Douala, Cameroon’s economic capital, and completed her primary education at Petit Joss before moving to France. In 1976 she defended her doctoral thesis in linguistics at the University of Paris III, focusing on greatness and dissent within political parties: the case of the UPC (Union de Populations de Cameroon).
