Dhaka: Obesity causes many health problems in humans. Being overweight is bad for animals too. Overeating can be life-threatening. A similar incident took place in Bangladesh a few years ago. A 100-year-old crocodile died due to obesity.

The crocodile lived in a pond at a shrine in the Sadar region of southwestern Bangladesh.

Locals saw this crocodile with great respect as they believed it had the power of God. Those who came to the shrine believed that if they feed the crocodile with chicken and goat, they will get good luck and fulfill their wishes. Many people started coming here from different parts of the country following hearing regarding the crocodile. At first, the people who came here used to feed the crocodile with chicken meat.

But there was propaganda that they would get results according to the size of giving. With this, they started giving the meat of goat and other things to the crocodile. The amount of food that the crocodile ingests during the day has increased sharply. As a result, the crocodile is overweight. The authorities of the shrine were also aware of this. But there was no understanding of how to prevent overfeeding the crocodile.

So one morning in 2015, the authorities found the lifeless body of the crocodile in the pond. The crocodile was lying upside down. It was discovered that the crocodile’s life was due to problems caused by obesity. Three other crocodiles also lived in this pond. These too died one following another due to health problems due to obesity.
