Obama gives support to Kamala Harris’ candidacy

The former president of the United States, Barack Obama, drew this Tuesday a possible victory for the Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, in the November elections. During her speech on the second day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, she assured that the country is ready “for a new chapter.”

“We don’t need four more years of grandstanding and chaos. We have already seen that movie and we know that the sequels are usually worse. America is ready for a new chapter. America is ready for a better story. “We are ready for a President Kamala Harris,” said the former president amid cheers.

In a thoughtful speech, Obama encouraged Americans to focus on the characteristics that unite them as a country and insisted that, despite polarization, citizens “want something better.”

“The vast majority of us do not want to live in a bitter and divided country,” said the president before an excited audience that interrupted his speech with applause and ovations.

Obama presented Harris as the candidate who can unite the US and fight for the interests of the people in contrast to Trump: “As president, she will not only serve her voters (…) she will work on behalf of every American.”

The former president was the star speaker of this second day of the Democratic convention and spoke after his wife, Michelle Obama, whose words were also received with cheers and excitement from the public, a speech in which he launched harsh criticism against Trump and encouraged his bases to do everything necessary to elect Harris next November.

The Democratic convention, which will last until Thursday, represents the closing of the party’s ranks around the candidacy of Vice President Harris, after the controversial withdrawal of President Joe Biden just a month ago.
