Women’s Ski World Cup in Lienz, Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck, New Year’s Eve races

Vienna (OTS) – The ÖAMTC expects busy travel even during the Christmas holidays. In some German federal states, the Czech Republic and other neighboring countries, the holidays end on New Year’s Day. There are also day trippers and guests at various events on New Year’s Eve.

Arrival and departure to the ski areas

Many will spend New Year’s Eve away, while others are already returning home from their Christmas vacation. The club expects heavy traffic on Friday followingnoon, Saturday morning and especially on Monday, New Year’s Day.

You should expect congestion on the following transit routes:

* Pyhrn Autobahn (A9) between St. Pankraz and Liezen and in front of the Bosruck and Gleinalm toll booths

* Tauern Autobahn (A10) in front of the construction site area at the Werden tunnel chain

* Inntal Autobahn (A12) in several sections

* Brenner Autobahn (A13) in the greater Innsbruck area

* Arlberg Expressway (S16) before the Dalaaser Tunnel

* Rheintal Autobahn (A14) before the Montafon exit

According to the ÖAMTC, there will also be traffic jams around the ski areas, for example in the Montafon (L188), in the Ötztal (B186), in the Zillertal (B169), on the Hochkönig (B164) or around Schladming (B320). should predominate.

Events attract thousands of visitors

Numerous events take place around the turn of the year, some of which cause high regional traffic volumes. In Vienna, Linz and Graz, for example, the New Year is welcomed with New Year’s Eve runs, for which there are short-term stops and some streets are closed.

Women’s Ski World Cup in Lienz

On December 28th and 29th, the women’s Alpine Ski World Cup races will be held on Lienz’s local mountain, Hochstein. On both race days, traffic disruptions are to be expected on Drautal Straße (B100) and on Felbertauern Straße (B108) on the approaches to Lienz. The ÖAMTC recommends traveling by public transport if possible.

Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck

As part of the Four Hills Tournament, the ski jumpers will be back at Bergisel in Innsbruck on January 2nd and 3rd, 2024. The ÖAMTC expects delays in the city of Innsbruck and advises switching to public transport. Brenner Straße (B182) will be closed between Innsbruck Süd and Innsbruck on January 3rd to create additional parking space for fans.
