Together with the federal government, the ÖAAB has proven in the past that it is a strong partner for employees and families
Vienna (OTS) – “The economic forecasts for the coming months and years are pointing in the right direction. Unemployment is the lowest it has been in years. But at the same time we are faced with a labor shortage that needs solutions. In his ‘Speech on the future of the nation’, Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer made it clear that he was sticking to the current policy of easing the burden on employees. Everyone who gets up every day and makes their contribution must have significantly more to live on than those who do not go to work. The goal is clear, in the long term the prosperity of the people should be guaranteed and the quality of life in the country secured”, said ÖAAB Federal Chairman KO August Wöginger on the occasion of Labor Day on May 1st.
“In Austria, almost five percent of the total volume of work performed by employees is in the form of overtime or overtime. This is an unsatisfactory situation in view of the massive labor shortage and the associated need for overtime. Many people want to work this overtime. But the state should not earn money here, the tax concessions for overtime urgently need to be expanded. Against the background of rising prices, people must be given the opportunity for such an additional service to have a positive impact on their wallets,” continued ÖAAB Secretary General Christoph Zarits.
“As a federal organization, we claim to be the ‘social conscience’ of the party and have always been committed to ensuring that the framework conditions are right for the people. That is why we are pushing for an extension of the tax exemption for overtime. Ten overtime hours per month are currently tax-free up to a maximum of 86 euros. In the future, up to 20 hours of overtime amounting to at least 200 euros will be tax-exempt,” Wöginger continues.
“An increase in the mileage allowance would also be a question of fairness in times of high inflation. Even without a crisis, the kilometer allowance no longer covers costs and leads to a real loss of income for people who use their private car for business purposes. That is why there is an urgent need to increase the mileage allowance to 50 cents per kilometer,” says Zarits.
“We have shown with the numerous packages of measures once morest inflation that we are not letting anyone down. We need to move from crisis mode to future mode. The world of work is constantly changing, which we have to actively shape. We are the strong partner of the local employees, we know their concerns and we will continue to ensure that solutions are created from which the working people will benefit,” concludes the ÖAAB leadership.
