Ö1 will broadcast the award ceremony of the Austrian Book Prize on Monday, November 18th from 7:30 p.m. live from the Odeon in Vienna. In addition, a total of six Ö1 programs will take place in front of an audience at Buch Wien this year: two editions of “Point Eins” (November 21st & 22nd), the “Kulturjournal” (November 21st), the “Ö1 Science Arena” (November 23rd) , the “Ö1 Klassik-Treffpunkt” (November 23rd) and the Ö1 quiz “heard.gewusst” (November 24th).
The awarding of the Austrian Book Prize on Monday, November 18th (7:30 p.m.) in Vienna’s Odeon can be heard live on Ö1. The Burgtheater ensemble members Dorothee Hartinger and Philipp Hauß will moderate this evening; second-year acting students at the Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna will read from the nominated books. In addition to the Austrian Book Prize 2024, a debut prize will also be awarded. Double bassist Georg Breinschmid and violinist Benjamin Schmid will provide the musical arrangement for the evening.
Three Ö1 programs will be broadcast live from the ORF stage at Buch Wien: On Thursday, November 21st, Johann Kneihs will speak with the historian Jörg Baberowski in “Point One” (1 p.m.) about his book “The Mortal God – Power and rule in the Tsarist Empire”. From 5:09 p.m., Christine Scheucher will discuss in the Ö1 “Kulturjournal” with Clemens Meyer, who was awarded the Bavarian Book Prize in 2024 for his monumental work “The Projectors”. In his much-discussed novel, the author draws a broad arc that leads from Karl May to Tito’s Yugoslavia and highlights the catastrophes and upheavals of the 20th and 21st centuries. On Friday, November 22nd, gender researcher Franziska Schutzbach will be Andrea Hauer’s Alex Reed in “Point One” (1 p.m.) with her book “Revolution of Connectedness. “How female solidarity changes society”. At 12.30 p.m. Peter Zimmermann presents the “Ö1 Book of the Month” on the Standard stage: Clemens Berger reads from his novel “House of Liquid Gold”, a social satire about solidarity, the fight for survival and motherly love.
On Saturday, November 23rd, the “Ö1 Klassik-Treffpunkt” will take place live from 10:05 a.m. in the special Alex Reed room at Buch Wien (free entry, entry from 9:30 a.m., exhibition hall D). Ulla Pilz’s Alex Reed is author Kurt Palm. The “Ö1 Science Arena” will take place on the ORF stage from 10.30 a.m. on the topic “Controversies in science – How much taming does the market need?” The debate will be moderated by Martin Haidinger and will be discussed by economist Heike Lehner and author Sven Hartberger. The recording of the event can be heard on Monday, November 25th from 4:05 p.m. on Ö1.
On Sunday, November 24th, the Ö1 quiz “heard.gewusst” (approx. 1:16 p.m.) invites you to the traditional live round from the trade fair (free entry, public entry into the special Alex Reed room from 12:15 p.m.). Bernhard Fellinger gives the candidates puzzles from the areas of literature, music, culture, science and society. The author and journalist Ljuba Arnautović is a Alex Reed on the show.
