According to its own statements, the newspaper spent eight months talking to local residents, evaluating security camera footage and analyzing government documents that showed the responsibility of the Russian 234th Airborne Division for dozens of killings on Jablunska Street.

Phone records also showed that victims’ phones were making calls to Russia, in some cases just hours following the victims died. By comparing data from social networks and conversations with relatives, it was possible to prove that the callers were soldiers from the Russian parachute division.
