NYPD Assigns Dozens of New Officers to Staten Island; Here’s Where

Staten Island welcomes 37 New NYPD Officers

Staten island is starting the new year with a boost⁣ to its police force. Thirty-seven newly graduated NYPD officers⁤ have been deployed across the island’s four precincts, marking a welcome⁣ increase in manpower to combat crime. Six officers each will be stationed at the 121st Precinct in Graniteville, the 122nd Precinct in New Dorp, and the 123rd Precinct in Tottenville. The remaining 19 new officers ⁤will report to the 120th Precinct in St. george. This deployment brings the total number‌ of ⁤officers patrolling the borough to 750.
“Today we welcome ⁤our new officers who recently graduated the police ‍academy. They are a welcome⁢ addition, and it will help in our⁢ efforts to further reduce‍ violent‌ crime on the North Shore in 2025,” the 120th Precinct announced on ‌X, formerly Twitter. This news comes ‌as Staten Island District⁢ Attorney Michael E. McMahon⁤ previously expressed concerns about staffing levels on the island in late 2023. McMahon emphasized ‌that an increased police presence on‌ the streets would play a crucial role in addressing key issues like overdoses and violence, particularly on the North Shore. Despite a shortage of officers, the NYPD has managed to increase arrest rates while McMahon’s office has ⁣successfully prosecuted the resulting cases.
“Law‌ enforcement’s vital mission to protect and serve has never been more difficult and ⁤yet, this week, Staten Islanders received some much-welcomed news as over three dozen NYPD officers have been newly assigned to patrol our beloved borough,” mcmahon said in a⁢ statement.‌ “While still woefully and historically short of the needed headcount to adequately protect our borough, I applaud Commissioner tisch for heeding my office’s call and assigning 37 members from this year’s graduating class to Staten Island.” McMahon affirmed that while these new officers will be working to deter and investigate crime, his office is eager to collaborate with them to hold dangerous criminals accountable in court, reduce violent crime, and improve the quality of life for residents.
“While I am ⁤confident that this recent influx⁢ and investment in Staten Island’s public safety will make a sizeable impact, I call on our borough’s young people to serve our city and help to restore public safety by joining the greatest police force the world has ever known and I will continue to ⁣urge Commissioner Tisch and our partners in government to allocate ⁢the necessary resources, personnel, and technology needed‍ to keep Staten‍ Island the safest ⁢community of its size in the country,” McMahon added. Those interested in ⁢joining the NYPD can⁤ apply for the police officer test, which is open now through March 25. Applications are available here.
