Nye Veier apologizes after they were reported for environmental crime by the State Administrator

The construction of the new Grenlandsbru affects the Frierflogene nature reserve in Porsgrunn municipality.

The conservation values in the reserve are well known, and state-owned Nye Veier has carried out supplementary investigations in connection with the development project. Nevertheless, there have been several illegal interventions in the nature reserve, outside the areas for which dispensation has been granted, informs The state administrator in Vestfold and Telemark.

– Seriously

According to the State Administrator, damage to vegetation and covering with masses have, among other things, destroyed a habitat for parrot tube mushrooms.

– The state administrator takes a serious view of the fact that illegal interventions have been carried out which have led to significant environmental damage in the nature reserve and loss of endangered nature, says director of the environment department Grethe Helgås.

In addition to the notification, the State Administrator has also notified an order for rectification in the form of removal of abandoned masses and material.

– We are very sorry that this happened, and have gone through routines together with the contractor with the aim of preventing this from happening again, says communications advisor Nils Bernt Rinde in Nye Veier in an email to NTB.

Nye Veier takes note of the report

According to Nye Veier, the contractor has deposited some loose material and logging residues just outside their area regulated for road purposes, which concerns an area with an extent of approximately 80 square meters adjacent to that regulated for road purposes.

– Throughout the process, we have had a good dialogue with the State Administrator. In consultation with the State Trustee, the area has remained untouched since the incident was discovered, says Rinde.

– Now they have made a decision, and we must deal with it. We take note of the report, and will contribute with all information that is requested in a possible investigation, he adds.
