While we are eagerly awaiting the official announcement of the RTX 4000 range, rumors and leaks are picking up once more! But this time, it’s different, since a visual potential has been unveiled.
Nvidia RTX 4080 specs reportedly leaked
As with every generation, we are patiently waiting for Nvidia to deliver official images and documents to finally discover the new graphics cards.
Different leaks reach us via social networks or sometimes even on manufacturer sites. For once, these are great regulars at the hardware information leak that tell us news on the specifications of the RTX 4080.
“We then learn today that the RTX 4080 would have fewer CUDA cores than expected by the old leaks. Initially comprised between 10240 and 10752 CUDA Cores, the number increases to 9728 cores. The Cuda Cores, or Compute Unified Device Architecture, is a computing platform dedicated to developers, which allows them to better control the resources they have available.
Other specs, however, remain unchanged.such as the AD103-300-A1 chip, 16 GB of dedicated GDDR6X video memory on a 256-bit bus, and a TDP of 420W.
In response to Harukaze’s tweet, another well-informed and well-known leaker provides even more interesting details. Kopite7kimi announces a potential return of an RTX Titan which would be in Nvidia’s boxes for this generation, still under the code name “The beast”.
The RTX 4080 and 4090 might well use a 5nm architecture produced by TSMC. A range of graphics cards that marks the 3rd generation of RTX, but above all, the beginning of the Lovelace architecture, which according to leaks, did not differ so much from the Ampere.
We therefore expect even more impressive Ray-Tracing performance than before.
The first image of the RTX 4080
In parallel with these first leaks, user KittyYYuko posted a potential photo of the RTX 4080 Founders Edition.
Through this transparent bag we notice a large propeller that occupies the entire width of the GPU. Another thing that might make you think of a fake is the font of the number 4080. The writing is much finer and rounded than on the RTX 2000 and 3000 series, but if you squint you can notice the Nvidia logo on the gray edge, at the top of the graphics card, towards the PCIe port.
On the design side, we remain faithful to the visual of the RTX 3080 FE which already sported this gray slice in the shape of 8. However, the angle of the photo cannot tell us if the sides present edges as on the RTX 3080 FE.
Pending official confirmation from Nvidia, it is difficult to confirm if these leaks are true. A conference will take place between September 19 and 22 to reveal “the new era of AI” made in Nvidia.
Knowing that, as usual, the graphics cards will be released one by one during the fall. We therefore expect the RTX 4090 in the first place, which should show up at the end of October/beginning of November, and an RTX 4080 by the beginning of 2023.
As a reminder, the RTX 4090 should present us with 24 GB of dedicated video memory on a 384 bit bus, with a consumption of 450W.
