Nvidia is reportedly accelerating GeForce RTX 4090 shipments to China in anticipation of new US trade regulations being enforced.

We recently addressed this problematic situation for the GPU giant. Nvidia is a likely victim of new trade regulations issued by the US government. They make it impossible to sell some of its graphics solutions with high-performance AI capabilities on the Chinese market. The US Department of Commerce has informed the giant that orders for AI chips worth around $5 billion destined for China are affected by these restrictions. They were planned for various players such as Alibaba, ByteDance and Baidu, with execution planned for next year.

We learn that Nvidia’s partners are currently mobilized to produce as many GeForce RTX 4090s as possible, in order to meet demand from the Chinese market before these restrictions are implemented. Entry into force is normally scheduled for November 17.

The information comes from an intervention by Zed Wang a reliable source around Nvidia’s activities. He assures

NVIDIA shipped numerous AD102 units to graphics card manufacturers (AICs) this week, aiming to produce as many RTX 4090s as possible before China’s export restrictions are due. It remains unclear whether or not these restrictions will become reality, but all graphics card manufacturers are currently working at full capacity to produce RTX 4090s, regardless of the scenario.
