A fire broke out on Sunday morning in a nursing home in Watermael-Boitsfort. Among the thirty residents who had to be evacuated, one was taken to hospital because he suffered from CO and smoke poisoning, say the Brussels firefighters.
The fire started around 3:30 a.m., on the night of Saturday to Sunday, on the third floor of a rest home located on the Chaussée de La Hulpe. The firefighters went to the scene with significant resources, as well as the local police and the Red Cross.
“Thirty-one residents on the third floor were evacuated and cared for at forward medical stations”explains the spokesperson for the fire brigade, Walter Derieuw.
“One of them, intoxicated by smoke and CO, was hospitalized. The fire is extinguished but several rooms on the third floor are temporarily uninhabitable. The evacuated residents will be placed in other wings of the house of rest.”
