The majority of nurses expressed their intention to take collective action if President Yoon Seok-yeol exercises his right to veto the Nursing Act enactment bill. The deadline for exercising the right to veto is the 19th.

According to the Korean Nursing Association (KANHA) on the 13th, as a result of the opinion survey on ‘Collective Action by Nurses’ of all members of the GANHYUP from the 8th, 98.4% (74,035 persons) said active group action was ‘necessary’. expressed its opinion. As of 8 p.m. on the 12th, 75,239 nurses participated in the opinion survey.

This opinion poll ends on the 14th. “If active collective action is decided as a result of the opinion survey, the Nursing Association plans to set a specific direction for the struggle and take action,” said an official from the Nursing Association.

Prior to the opinion poll, the GANHyup had stated that it would not take collective action to ensure the lives and safety of the people even if the president’s veto was exercised.

Ganhyeop is not a labor union, so it can pay annual leave and take collective action. However, it is not easy for nurses working at university hospitals to pay annual leave and struggle because their work schedule is usually set up a month in advance.

Items of this opinion survey included participation in the campaign to return nurse’s licenses, and willingness to participate in the ‘Clean Politics Campaign’, in which each nurse joins one political party of their choice. When asked if they would like to participate in the nurse license return campaign and clean politics campaign, 61.5% (46,272) and 78.1% (58,762) of respondents said they would participate, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Nursing Act passed the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 27th of last month and was transferred to the government on the 4th. The President must promulgate or exercise the right to veto within 15 days from the date the Nursing Act is transferred. This law will be submitted to the regular Cabinet meeting on the 16th or the extraordinary Cabinet meeting to be held therefollowing.
