Florida: The court sentenced the husband to life imprisonment in the case of killing a Malayali nurse in the US. Merin Joy (27), daughter of couple Joy-Mercy, was killed in Marangat, living in a house in Monipally ural. In the case, the husband, Philip Mathew (Nevin- 37), a resident of Changanassery, was sentenced to life without parole by the county court in Florida.

The attack took place on July 28, 2020. Merin, a nurse at Broward Health Hospital in Coral Springs, Miami, was stabbed while returning from work. Then he was killed by a car. Police report that he was stabbed 17 times.

Merin and Philip were living separately due to a family dispute. Meanwhile, U.S. media reports that Philip cannot be released from prison because he is serving a life sentence without parole.

Paula McMahon, a spokeswoman for the state’s attorney’s office, said the decision to avoid the death penalty is because the defendant waives his right to appeal.

Mer’s cousin, Joby Philip, who lives in Tampa, watched the hearing on Zoom. The verdict was then translated to Mer’s family. Merin’s mother responded that she was happy to know her daughter’s killer would spend the rest of his years in prison.
