Nurse Killed in La Matanza Carjacking: Suspect Arrested
Eliana Vanesa Gómez, 37-year-old nurse, murdered on Saturday in La Matanza

Grief ripples through La Matanza following the tragic death of 37-year-old nurse Eliana Vanessa Gómez. Gomez was tragically shot and killed during a brazen carjacking attempt on Saturday afternoon.

Police have apprehended the suspect, identified only as “El Oreja,” and his wife. The arrest came following an intensive investigation involving covert surveillance in Atalaya Rafael Castillo Plaza, where the couple was known to sell candies.

Authorities confirmed that Gomez was returning home after running errands at noon on Saturday. As she pulled into her residence on the corner of Rafael Castillo and Gregorio Laferrere, Olivieri, and Luis Vernet Streets, her red Fiat Argo was intercepted by two armed assailants.

Determined to protect herself, Gomez locked her car doors as the attackers approached. The situation escalated quickly when one of the assailants fired a shot through the window, fatally striking Gomez in the temple. The attackers then dragged Gomez from her vehicle, leaving her lifeless on the street before fleeing in the stolen car.

The getaway vehicle was later found crashed and abandoned a few blocks away, near San Carlos de Isidro Casanova.

Despite the valiant efforts of neighbors who rushed her to the René Favaloro health center, Gomez sadly passed away shortly after arrival. The bullet wound to the right parietal bone ultimately proved fatal.

One of Gomez’s friends, speaking to reporters, expressed shock and disbelief, saying, “She had some friends at home and she went out to buy something, and when she came back this garbage appeared…”

The case has sent shockwaves through the community, raising crucial questions about safety and security in the area. The investigation into the homicide is ongoing, led by the UFIJ Thematic Homicide Unit of the Justice Department of La Matanza, headed by prosecutor Carlos Arribas.
