A private source revealed to Al-Riyadiya that Portuguese Nuno Santo, coach of the first Al-Ittihad Football team, yesterday rejected all administrative attempts to return Abdul Rahman Al-Aboud, the midfielder, to group training, and demanded that he continue to be removed without specifying a time period for his decision.
The source revealed that the management of the Western Club asked Al-Aboud to complete his daily exercises in the health club until the next winter transfer period. He stated that Al-Aboud intends to escalate the decision to transfer him to solitary training to the Professionalism and Players’ Status Committee of the Saudi Football Federation, since its regulations prohibit this procedure. He pointed out that the international player underwent careful medical examinations that proved that he was safe from any injury and did not suffer from any muscle weakness, and he exercises daily in the health club at the Al-Ittihad Club headquarters, and in the evening with a personal trainer. Al-Riyadiya had published in its September 13 issue that the managers of the Western Club would speak with the Portuguese coach regarding the player’s return to training with his teammates, and to persuade him to agree following he was excluded from the preparatory camp roster by a “technical decision.” It is noteworthy that last season witnessed disagreements between Santo and the player, which resulted in him being excluded from the team’s matches for long periods. Last year, Al-Ittihad Club renewed its association with Abdul Rahman Al-Aboud for three seasons, ending in 2026. The 27-year-old player joined the team in July 2019 with a four-season contract coming from Al-Ettifaq, and defended its colors in 102 matches.
