The death toll in Myanmar has risen to 384 as the country grapples with the impact of Typhoon Yagi, with 89 people missing, the military junta said Saturday.

Yagi, which struck more than a week ago, hit northern Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar, causing devastating floods and landslides that have claimed hundreds of lives across the region.

As reported by Anadolu, Monday (23/9), a statement by Myanmar noted that many areas, including the states of Kayah and Kayin, had been badly affected by the cyclone, with reports of damage to roads, bridges, houses and schools.

Military chief General Min Aung Hlaing visited the affected areas with other military officials to oversee rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.

The UN estimates up to 887,000 people in Myanmar were affected by the storm.

The UN humanitarian agency noted that the worst-affected areas faced severe destruction, with extensive damage to homes, personal belongings, water sources and electricity infrastructure. (I-2)
