The Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, announced on Tuesday evening on TVR Info that the number of registrations of used cars, mostly imported from Western Europe, decreased this year by more than 20% compared to the same period last year, News.ro cites.

“On the one hand, the number of registrations of new, new generation cars increased by 24%, which is a gratifying figure. On the other hand, another piece of good news, at least for the Ministry of the Environment, was that the number of second-hand cars, usually brought from Western Europe, decreased for the first time by 21% this year compared to the first half of last year “, said Mircea Fechet on Tuesday evening, at TVR Info.
He specified that the best news regarding car registrations is the fact that there is a 57% increase in the number of electric and plug-in hybrid cars, the number of these cars registered this year reaching approximately 10,000.
The minister claims that the voucher granted by Romania for electric cars is “almost the largest” in the European Union.
Rabla Local started on Monday
The used car scrapping program – Rabla Local – started on Monday, from 10:00 a.m., and individuals might sign up to receive 3,000 lei, in exchange for scrapping an old and polluting car. There were problems with the application and the pace of signing up was slow in the first hour.
Mircea Fechet declared on Friday in Cluj-Napoca that the objective set by the PNRR is that in the next three years over 250,000 vehicles over 15 years old will be removed from circulation, through recovery.
“I am convinced that the citizens’ interest in getting a vehicle older than 15 years, without having the obligation to purchase a new vehicle instead, will be extremely high, just like in the case of the other renewal programs of the car park that we run through the Environment Fund Administration”, said the Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, according to News.ro.
