Number of passengers at Uíge Airport drops from seven thousand and 170 to two thousand and 378 in 2023 – news

Manuel Quarta-Punza Airport, in the city of Uíge, registered, in 2023, the movement of two thousand and 378 passengers, compared to seven thousand and 170 in the previous period, reported this Saturday, the director of the institution, Alfredo Luemba.

Speaking to ANGOP, the person responsible justified the reduction in movement, the suspension of commercial flights by TAAG-Linhas Aéreas de Angola, in February 2023.

He explained that there is a prospect of TAAG flights resuming later this year, following the reasons for its stoppage have been overcome.

Suspended flights to the province of Uíge, last February, for operational and commercial reasons.

The measure fell within the scope of the readjustment of the national domestic flight program, which came into force on March 3, 2023, and extended until May 31 of the same year.

Regarding the connection on the Luanda-Uíge-Cabinda routes and vice versa, Alfredo Luemba said that there is a proposal from TAAG, and as soon as it comes to fruition and the conditions are created, operations will begin.

He pointed out as challenges for this year (2024), the completion of the works to seal the airport perimeter, the repair of the air conditioning equipment in the protocol, boarding and arrival rooms, the construction of a water tank for the Fire Services, among others.

Built between 1966 and 1967, Uíge airport was rehabilitated in 2014, and is capable of receiving Boeing 737/700 flights and all other smaller flights.
