For the past few years, Netflix has been one of the top streaming platforms offering a wide selection of content to its subscribers. The company has recently taken steps to restrict password sharing, which has had a surprising impact on new subscriptions.

Since the announcement that sharing would be limited in the United States effective May 23, 2023, Netflix has experienced a significant increase in new users. According to the latest data from Antenna, a streaming services measurement company, Netflix recorded the four highest user acquisition days in the US in its four and a half year history.

Netflix wins new subscribers with new password-sharing measures in the US

Specifically, on May 26th and 27th, Netflix saw nearly 100,000 new daily sign-ups, resulting in a daily average of 73,000 sign-ups during that period. This represents an impressive 102% increase over the previous 60-day average. These numbers surpass even the enrollment spikes seen during the initial Covid-19 lockdowns in March and April 2020. cancellations have also increasedthe ratio of sign-ups to unsubscribes since May 23 has increased by just 25.6% compared to the previous 60-day period.

Apparently Netflix’s new strategy to increase the number of subscriptions by prohibiting sharing accounts with people who do not live in the same household ended up leading to thousands of new accounts. Of course, this was also expected, once you’re a fan of the biggest streaming platform in the world, it’s hard to lose access and the best content in the catalogue, isn’t it?

It’s in Brazil? The measure came less than a month ago, will Netflix win new subscriptions around here?
