Number of migrant arrivals in Italy falls by 60 percent

The number is also lower than the same period in 2022, when 27,346 migrants disembarked.

Most of the migrants arriving in Italy in 2024 come from Bangladesh, Syria and Tunisia. 3,382 minors reached Italy in the first half of 2024, compared to 18,820 in the same period in 2023 and 14,044 in the first half of 2022, the Interior Ministry said.

To combat the causes of migration, the government led by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni last year drafted the so-called Mattei Plan, which envisages a series of “equal and beneficial” partnerships with African countries and the Mediterranean states. The aim is to strengthen cooperation at various levels, including once morest human trafficking.
