Number of gas cylinders on sale decreases amid crisis

In the midst of the crisis and gas shortage in Cuba, authorities of the Cuban Petroleum Company (Cupet) reported that the number of liquefied gas cylinders for sale in one of the main provinces of the country was decreasing.

According to official information from Cupet in Santiago de Cuba, in addition to a new queuing system at LPG Points of Sale, the purchase of single LPG cylinder per client, with the exception of those with two contracts in the same home, who may purchase two cylinders.

Homes will be allowed to buy only two cylinders, thus eliminating the option of purchasing five cylinders.

Based on a recent Cupet circular, Circular 5 of 2022 was repealed. With the aim of improving the quality of service at LPG points of sale, new modifications are implemented in the queuing system.

The new scheme establishes four differentiated segments:

2. Prioritized clients, such as those who belong to the Jaba plan, pregnant women, donors, among others.
3. Disabled clients, who must be part of the family nucleus, reflected in the supply booklet.
4. Extra Cash Customers and point of sale workers.

This new regulation for the sale of gas cylinders in Cuba, specifically from Santiago, also specifies that prioritized customers must present their updated documents to access the benefits of their queue.

Additionally, up to 5,000 Cuban pesos can be withdrawn, in the extra box version, as long as liquefied gas is available at the point of sale.

These measures, according to officials, seek to improve efficiency and customer service at LPG sales points and can be extended to the rest of the country’s provinces; in fact, in places like Villa Clara, they are being implemented.

How will the sale be carried out in Santiago? When distribution begins at points of sale, the following will be done:

During the first three days, sales will be prioritized to customers who were required to purchase the service until the month of September, according to their cycle (includes all previous months). Starting on the fourth day of distribution, the sale will be made to the rest of the corresponding customers.
