Nuisances linked to helicopter flights: residents of the South Shore win their case

After more than a year of being subjected to the noise and roar of helicopters, residents of the eastern sector of the city of Longueuil can finally find their peace of mind: new flight routes have been established for the helicopters flying above their residential homes.

New flight routes have thus been established from Montreal Saint-Hubert – Longueuil airport and Montreal / St-Hubert Héli-Inter aerodrome (CTG2) and have been officially in force since April 15, according to the firm. of the Mayor of Longueuil.

“I am so relieved for the citizens of my neighborhood! This is a great collective victory. All the efforts made – and added up – have finally borne fruit, ”said Lysa Bélaïcha, municipal councilor for the district of Boisé-Du Tremblay, the main district affected by this noise pollution, in a press release on Monday.

Remember that, since the spring of 2021, the situation has been unbearable for residents of the eastern sector of the city, who have been subjected to the noise and roar of tourist helicopters from the Hélicraft company. The latter flew above their heads several dozen times each day during the summer period. A situation exacerbated on weekends, where the frequency sometimes varied by only 10 to 15 minutes between flights, from morning to evening.

“The noise on some streets was so intense that it forced conversations to stop,” added Mr.me Bélaïcha.

“I would like to thank all the players involved who have pitched in to help resolve this thorny issue. […]. The links between Helicraft, NAV Canada and Transport Canada being complex, this demanded a good dose of resilience. Fortunately, we are witnessing a positive outcome in this file, and this, before the summer, ”rejoiced the mayoress of Longueuil, Catherine Fournier.

The Mayor also invited the federal authorities “to ensure compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations [RAC]which regulates, among other things, the minimum heights for helicopter flights.
