A positive evaluation of the response of the Nelson Oyarzún Arenas municipal stadium in Chillán to the duel between Ñublense and Huachipato, despite the heavy rains that have hit the area, was made by the players of the Chillán team, the club manager and the ANFP inspector.
“The state of the playing field was surprising despite the heavy rains, so I congratulate the municipality of Chillán, the mayor and his team because the stadium is wonderful, it is one of the best stadiums we have in the country, because the amount of water that fell before and during the game and the field resisted. That is why I highlight the work of the groundskeepers, of the administrator Daniel de la Hoz. It was important to have the field in good condition to play our game and win,” said Francisco Mardones, manager of the club.
“We thank the Municipality because the field was in very good condition and I think we were able to play our game,” said Ñublense defender Rafael Caroca.
“The pitch was heavy due to the rain, but it held up pretty well, despite all the rain in the previous days. We have a good pitch to play on at this time of year,” said Argentine striker for Rojo, Ismael “Chuco” Sosa.
The ANFP supervisor for this match, Patricio Almendra, also applauded the maintenance work that was done at the venue before the match might be played, unlike what happened at the Fiscal stadium in Talca, where the playing field was flooded and the match between Rangers and Comunal Cabrero for the Chile Cup had to be suspended.
They highlight work
“Don Patricio (Almendra) congratulated us because the pitch has changed a lot since the match with O’Higgins because we applied fertilizers and fertiliser. In fact, he told us that today it was one of the best pitches in the country that has responded,” said the administrator of the Nelson Oyarzún stadium, Daniel de la Hoz, who revealed the key to the work they carried out so that the venue would not be flooded and might withstand the hustle and bustle of the match between the “red devils” and “steelworkers.”
“We are happy with the response to the field, despite the rains that have affected the area. But as a precaution, we have been working with some products. We applied 600 kilos of fertiliser to the field to aerate the soil. We also applied some foliants and root enhancers so that the field remains as you saw it. We are happy with the work carried out by the municipal crew, the results and the congratulations that are the fruit of teamwork, from the municipality, the administration and the crews, who thanks to the injection of resources approved by Mayor Camilo Benavente we have been able to maintain the field with the necessary tools,” explained de La Hoz.
The mayor of Chillán, Camilo Benavente, stated that “this is a municipal decision that merits these congratulations because the stadium’s work team has worked with commitment, following the advice given to us by Marcelo Bielsa’s groundskeeper, Patricio Bustamante, and following the example of the former groundskeeper, Juanito Salazar, who was there from 8 in the morning until 6 in the followingnoon checking for any weeds or phytosanitary problems. And that is appreciated and explains why the pitch responded despite the amount of water that fell, and why Ñublense also came out victorious.”
The current groundskeepers who maintain the pitch of the legendary Chillán stadium are Milton Leupín, Antonio Toro and Jorge Soterrey, although the administrator of the facility, Daniel de la Hoz, explained that in addition to the team that maintains the pitch, there are also those responsible for the structure and general cleaning of the stadium.
