O Nubank announced this Thursday (23) the NuBraille, which consist of a set of accessibility features. At first, the blind users or with low vision may have access to a card with the name of the holder written in braille, as well as the last four digits. Gisele Oliveira is a specialist in Diversity & Inclusion at the bank and commented on the news:
The relevance of having a person’s or company’s name in Braille is extremely valuable, as it reinforces the feeling of belonging, inclusion and also of an affective nature, since Braille is not present in everyday life or in ink writing. There is difficulty in accessing books, magazines, and even in schools, where blind children and adolescents rarely have their names stamped on their school materials. Nubank is innovative by inserting the name and company of customers in Braille on roxinho and PJ cards
Gisele is blind, as is Leonardo Gleison, who is a representative of NuPlural, an affinity group for people with disabilities at Nubank and one of the institution’s software engineers. He participated in the initiative and spoke regarding it:
Even though I participated in the entire creation process of NuBraille, when I received my card, the feeling of independence and accomplishment was very interesting when I was able to unlock the card autonomously for the first time in my life.
Among the changes, Nubank claims that the card is easier to order, as it is possible to identify people who use screen readers to offer the card with Braille writing at the beginning of the application process. Also, even non-customers can order the item that way.
The user also receives an affordable welcome kit consisting of braille writing and a QR Code which leads to videos available on the bank’s YouTube channel. In this way, it is possible to access the guidelines for unlocking the card and creating virtual versions.
The novelty is available both for those who are traditional customers (Gold and Platinum) or who have a PJ card and shows the company’s intention in accessible practices, which is also among Iti’s actions on the subject, in addition to other sustainable practices.
