Political Fray Erupts as NTF-ELCAC Accuses Makabayan Bloc of Exploiting Impeachment Issue
The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) has publicly criticized members of the Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives, accusing them of opportunistically exploiting the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte for political gain.
The statement, released on Sunday, condemned the bloc’s dual approach of demanding accountability from the Vice President while simultaneously criticizing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his reluctance to support the impeachment proceedings.
“In a political landscape where every move can ripple across national stability, the Makabayan Bloc has always been at the forefront of rocking the boat at every turn imaginable,” the NTF-ELCAC declared.
“They demand accountability from the Vice President, while they criticize the President when he refuses to get on board. Like a child throwing a tantrum, Makabayan is angry that the person they seem to rely on is distancing himself from their agenda,” the group added.
Raising suspicions about the bloc’s true motivations, the NTF-ELCAC questioned why the Chief Executive’s neutrality, or even opposition, should even be a factor if impeachment is truly about justice and accountability.
“Makabayan’s demand for legislative independence rings hollow when they simultaneously seek executive validation for their sinister crusade,” the statement asserted.
The task force argued that Marcos’ call for lawmakers to drop the impeachment proceedings is a plea for national unity, a goal which, it claims, the Makabayan bloc seems vehemently opposed to.
Allegations of Tactical Manipulation
The NTF-ELCAC further accused the Makabayan bloc of aligning with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) in their efforts to exploit political instability and sow discord.
“This is, of course, on brand; the CPP has always maintained capitalizing on political instability or factional disputes among ‘elites,’ viewing these divisions as chances to weaken their control and influence,” the statement alleges.
,
The Makabayan bloc is comprised of ACT Teachers, Gabriela Women, and Kabataan, all with incumbent representatives in Congress, along with Bayan Muna and Anakpawis.
Dangers to Democratic Institution
The NTF-ELCAC warned that by sowing distrust and divisions between branches of government, the Makabayan bloc is undermining the very institutions they claim to be a part of.
“A stable political environment is essential for effective governance, but their actions only deepen the fractures within the country’s political system. Makabayan’s outrage at the President’s alleged interference is a textbook example of exploiting tension for political gain,” the NTF-ELCAC concluded.
How does the Makabayan Bloc justify its dual stance of demanding accountability from the Vice President while criticizing the President for not supporting the impeachment process, given their assertion of belief in the separation of powers?
## Political Tensions Flare as NTF-ELCAC Accuses Makabayan Bloc of Exploiting Impeachment
**[Interviewer]:** Joining us today is Congressman [insert name], a member of the Makabayan Bloc, to discuss the recent statement from the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) accusing the bloc of exploiting the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte. Congressman, the NTF-ELCAC claims the Makabayan Bloc is using this issue for political gain. How do you respond to these allegations?
**[Congressman]:** We vehemently deny these baseless accusations. The Makabayan Bloc is dedicated to upholding accountability and transparency in government. Our call for an impeachment inquiry against Vice President Duterte stems from legitimate concerns regarding her actions and potential violations of the law. We firmly believe that all public officials, regardless of their position, should be held accountable for their conduct.
**[Interviewer]:** The NTF-ELCAC also criticizes the Makabayan Bloc for demanding accountability from the Vice President while simultaneously criticizing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for not supporting the impeachment proceedings. How do you reconcile these seemingly contradictory positions?
**[Congressman]:** We are not criticizing the President for not supporting the impeachment process. Our position is that the Vice President’s actions warrant a thorough investigation, which is the role of the impeachment process. We believe in the separation of powers and the need for each branch of government to operate independently.
We do however believe the President has a responsibility to uphold the Constitution and ensure that all government officials act within the confines of the law.
**[Interviewer]:** The NTF-ELCAC compares the Makabayan Bloc’s actions to “a child throwing a tantrum.” What is your reaction to this language?
**[Congressman]:** The NTF-ELCAC consistently resorts to inflammatory rhetoric and personal attacks instead of engaging in substantive debate. Their language is undemocratic and intended to silence dissent. We will not be intimidated by their tactics. We will continue to fight for transparency, accountability, and justice for the Filipino people.
**[Interviewer]:** Congressman [last name] , thank you for your time and insights.
