Political Fray Erupts as NTF-ELCAC Accuses Makabayan Bloc of Exploiting Impeachment Issue
The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) has publicly criticized members of the Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives, accusing them of opportunistically exploiting the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte for political gain.
The statement, released on Sunday, condemned the bloc’s dual approach of demanding accountability from the Vice President while simultaneously criticizing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his reluctance to support the impeachment proceedings.

The NTF-ELCAC further accused the Makabayan bloc of aligning with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) in their efforts to exploit political instability and sow discord.
“This is, of course, on brand; the CPP has always maintained capitalizing on political instability or factional disputes among ‘elites,’ viewing these divisions as chances to weaken their control and influence,” the statement alleges.

The NTF-ELCAC warned that by sowing distrust and divisions between branches of government, the Makabayan bloc is undermining the very institutions they claim to be a part of.
