Kucher, Oberrauner, Mitteregger and Lerchbaumer were elected as the top candidates in the four Carinthian constituencies with the approval of 92.6 percent of the delegates.

Klagenfurt (OTS) – With an impressive vote of 92.6 percent, the list of the entire SPÖ-Carinthia candidates, which was previously drawn up in the districts using the zipper system, was approved today at the Carinthia Conference. Philip Kucher received 96.7 percent approval as the top candidate. Around 280 delegates and guests gathered in the Neue Burg in Völkermarkt. In addition to the state party chairman Peter Kaiser, the federal party chairman and top candidate Andreas Babler also addressed the delegates with a video message, SPÖ Carinthia state manager Andreas Sucher gave an outlook on the upcoming super election year 2024 – Mayor Markus Lakounigg welcomed the delegates as host. District party chairman Hermann Srienz and Klaus Seltenheim, SPÖ federal manager, also addressed the delegates with greetings on behalf of Andreas Babler.

“When more than 50 percent of the electorate go to the ballot box, decisions of global, national and even local importance take on a new dimension,” said SPÖ Carinthia state party leader LH Peter Kaiser in his speech. “This year’s decisions are particularly significant. It’s possible regarding how we deal with crises and challenges, what guidelines we follow. For us, all of these elections – be it in Europe or in Austria – are regarding values that are inextricably linked to our 150-year history: a clear yes to “a liberal democracy, with respect, tolerance, but also a clear line of content. That is social democracy in 2024,” said Kaiser.

“Obviously they want us to believe that it is already clear how the elections will turn out in six months. This is an atmosphere that we must counteract with all our determination. On September 29th we have the chance to prove that social democracy can give this country a new direction,” said Kaiser and continued: “We have shown many ways in which inflation can be effectively counteracted in Austria. There was no reaction from the federal government – that has to change on September 29th. Politicians are always well advised to stand up for values, content and programs. A politics that sees itself as defensive is not what inspires people, what motivates them to get involved. We stand for values such as dignity, respect, tenant protection and effective combating inflation. We want a more developed welfare state, secure pensions and health care via the e-card and not via the credit card. That’s what we stand for, that’s what social democracy stands for.”

The state governor made it clear that global challenges can only be overcome together, also with regard to the EU elections. With a Europe that plays a global role, with a Europe of social justice that social democracy demands.

“I consider three essential points to be essential for a successful future: 1. The fight once morest price increases and the fight once morest inflation – we have to ensure that everyone in this republic can afford an apartment, that food and hygiene products, which we see as basic supplies, remain affordable. 2. Having the courage to accept permanent change as the new normal – grandchild responsibility means climate protection. The sustainability goals are our guideline. Ultimately: asylum policy causes fears and worries for many people – in the Kaiser-Doskozil we have clearly defined a few points: a common European asylum policy, initial reception centers outside the borders of the European Union, giving people who are in the country the chance to commit to the common good – and we firmly believe: integration before immigration,” said Kaiser.

“Let us commit ourselves to a community of solidarity that leaves no one behind in this republic. Through our work, our content and our openness, we offer a home to the political center. Let us confirm through our actions that social democracy is a party with values. When selecting our candidates, let us guarantee one thing that people and Austria urgently need: authenticity. And by far the most authentic person for the next National Council election is Andreas Babler,” explains LH Kaiser.

Carinthia also has this authenticity, Kaiser explains: with Philip Kucher from Klagenfurt, who also lives his emotions in parliament and puts them forward. At his side, Petra Oberrauner, from Villach and SPÖ Carinthia state women’s chairwoman, committed and experienced, and at the interface between business and science – authentic and feminine. With St. Veiter Clemens Mitteregger as a young, committed person from the East constituency who contributes legal and economic policy expertise. Daniela Lerchbaumer, head of the sub-department in the Carinthian state government and based in Mallnitz, completes the quartet of the four constituencies, said Kaiser.

The SPÖ Carinthia’s top candidate, Klagenfurt’s Philip Kucher, has been a member of the National Council since 2013 and is currently the area spokesman for health and managing club chairman. He is the SPÖ district party leader in his hometown of Klagenfurt.

Mag.a Dr. Petra Oberrauner is an SPÖ member of the National Council and regional spokesperson for digitalization, research and innovation as well as SPÖ Carinthia women’s chairwoman.

The lawyer Mag. Clemens Mitteregger is the second deputy mayor of the city of St. Veit, a local councilor since 2015 and a city councilor for youth, education and schools since 2020.

Daniela Lerchbaumer, from Mallnitz, is currently head of the Carinthian state government’s elementary education sub-department.

SPÖ Carinthia regional manager Andreas Sucher gave an outlook on the super election year 2024: “On the EU election that will take place in June and the agitation and populist attacks on the EU by political competitors: The effects of Brexit are obvious. Our goal as a social democracy is to maintain prosperity, secure peace and strengthen Europe’s economic power for the future with our models for the EU. Peace and prosperity cannot be taken for granted, but must be continually fought for.”

“It’s once more regarding a directional decision in Austria – probably on September 29th. We are facing a historic turning point: Will there be a renewed policy of wrecking ball, as we have already experienced several times under Black/Blue? Scandals, billions in gifts to companies – so that the rich can serve themselves even better, or are we taking a new path?” said Sucher, referring to North Rhine-Westphalia. “This National Council election is regarding right or center-left. Social democracy stands for the center-left, and that’s what Andi Babler stands for. We stand for a functioning health system, secured pensions, human rights and orderly migration as called for in the Kaiser Doksozil paper. We stand for a move away from inflammatory populism and artificially fueled discussions regarding the dominant culture. We stand up once morest the weakening of Austria through corruption and nepotism. Let us work together to ensure that following NRW there is no way around Andi Babler and the Social Democrats,” said Sucher.
