NPhA dispatches pharmacists to Noto Peninsula earthquake with cooperation from member companies

Published date and time: 2024/01/19 04:50 The Japan Health Pharmacy Association (NPhA) stated at its regular press conference on January 18th, regarding the dispatch of pharmacists to the Noto Peninsula earthquake-affected areas, “We will continue to dispatch pharmacists until the end of February, and we will continue to monitor the situation thereafter. We will consider the matter in light of the following.” Noting that there continues to be an “overwhelming shortage of pharmacists” in the disaster-stricken areas, he emphasized that “the significance of dispatching pharmacists as NPhA is that we can continue to provide support with the cooperation of member companies.”

In response to the Noto Peninsula earthquake, NPhA set up a support system for the first time, dispatching a team of pharmacists with the cooperation of member companies. Locally, under the guidance of the Ishikawa Prefecture Pharmacists Association, we work at evacuation centers mainly in Wajima City. They are checking the status of prescription drugs for disaster victims and providing medication guidance in collaboration with local pharmacies and mobile pharmacies. Yukiko Okamura, executive director of Takara Pharmacy, who entered the disaster area on the 8th, said, “There were few pharmacists in the disaster area, and some of the disaster victims had run out of medication or were not taking it. As people move to evacuation centers or are integrated, there is a need for support and measures that will pay close attention to all affected people.”
