now you will have to pay for your statements

As of January 1, customers who are not equipped with Linky meters must take their readings themselves and send them to Enedis. Otherwise, these statements will be invoiced to them. From 2025, they will be invoiced automatically.

For customers not equipped with a Linky meter, it will now be necessary to plan to pay 59.76 euros per year. Indeed, from January 1, Enedis makes its meter readings chargeable.

Only way to avoid it, take their own readings. These statements are then to be transmitted to Enedis by internet or by telephone.

A solution valid only until January 1, 2025. Beyond that, these readings will be invoiced in all cases, unless you are equipped with a Linky meter. An incentive measure to equip all French homes. “We currently have more than 36 million meters installed in France”says a spokesperson for Enedis. “Our goal is that all 37 million homes will eventually be equipped with it by 2025.” Because these costs are stopped as soon as a meter is installed in the home.

The collectives opposed to these meters filed a legal action to suspend this CRE measure, the Energy Regulation Commission. The procedure is still ongoing. “It’s a scam, an injustice compared to other consumers”denounces Bernard Gisclard, of the Stop Linky Tarn Sud collective. “Why only some should pay their statements and not the others?”

On the Enedis side, it is precisely the argument of fairness that is put forward to justify charging customers for statements. “Sending agents to make or check these readings comes at a cost, as does processing this data when it is sent by customers”he explains. “It does not seem fair to us to charge this cost to all consumers, we are just asking for the real cost of these interventions which only concern people who are not equipped with a Linky meter.”

Intrusion into privacy through real-time readings, risk of remote power cuts, electromagnetic waves, etc. The grievances of the opponents of these meters are numerous. Not sure that a financial incentive is enough to convert them.
