It’s official. More than four years following partnering with Falabella, the Swedish home improvement giant Ikea will hold the long-awaited premiere of its first store in Chile, next august 10. The opening of the store also marks its landing in South America, in an aggressive commercial strategy that seeks to be the fastest and largest expansion in its history.
The sales room is located in the shopping center Open Kennedy, located in the commune of Las Condes. Last Friday the Swedish firm displayed the traditional blue sign with yellow letters representing its logo on the west façade of the shopping centerone of the most iconic characteristics of the brand.
The premiere of the Swedish brand in the country It was already seen since the end of last year as its main event during this 2022. “The next year’s biggest milestone will be the opening of Ikea Chile in Santiago, which will bring Ikea closer to the many inhabitants of South America”, stated the company in its 2021 financial statements.
Although its opening was originally scheduled for the first semester, the details of its first sales room were advancing the equipment level with which it would have: decoration room, children’s area and a restaurant.
Through a statement, the company confirmed that when the Open Kennedy store is open to the public, it will also start operating the e-commerce site throughout continental Chile, which will have the same variety of products as the store and promises an equally inspiring experience.
“Our teams have worked for months fine-tuning all the details so that people can live the same experience that IKEA offers in each market in which it operates. We are proud and, at the same time, very expectant because our clients will soon be able to come and see the spaces and all the products that we are bringing to them”, said Francisco Errázuriz, regional retail manager of IKEA Chile, Colombia and Peru.
forward is expected a second opening in Mallplaza Oeste, space that will have regarding 25 thousand m2 of total area, including 15,400 m2 of sales area. Meanwhile, in Colombia, the first IKEA store will open in Bogota in 2023.
Ikea was born in Sweden 75 years ago and already has a global presence. In 2021, together with its franchisees, it registered a turnover of 41.9 billion euros and 26% came from online sales. Through the franchise system to which Falabella joined, Ikea operates in 32 markets and between 2019 and 2023 it intends to expand to 17 new countries.
Last year the brand entered Mexico and Slovenia and in 2022 it will do so in Puerto Rico, the Philippines and Oman.
