Now visitors are also rioting in Swiss cinemas because of Tiktok trends

Visitors throw popcorn around, smear sauce on the seats and stick chewing gum to the floor. The reason for this behavior is a Tiktok trend. The more blatant the devastation and the louder the riot, the more clicks a video generates.

This trend originated in Germany, but it has already spilled over to Austria. How is it in Switzerland?

Nau.ch visited the Palace cinema in Wetzikon ZH, where such scenes happened last Saturday. “There were a lot of people who just didn’t behave properly,” says the managing director, Severin Brenner. People “shouted around, smoked e-cigarettes in the hall and filmed with their cell phones during the performance”.

After the performance, the cinema looked worse than before. You noticed that people wanted to leave a mess on purpose. “They shoved nacho sauce into the seats and stomped and spread chewing gum on the floor.”

So that such scenes do not repeat themselves, measures are currently being considered. “We definitely don’t want to just accept it like that,” says Brenner. However, he might not say more regarding it at this point in time.

But: “The logical conclusion would actually be that we have to make personalized tickets.” At the end of the day, you know who was in which position. This would allow visitors to be held accountable if necessary. But the cinema actually wants to do without that.

Despite everything, the film “Creed 3” will continue to be shown in the Palace Wetzikon cinema, the managing director assures.
